STONHARD INSTALLS HYGIENIC FLOORING AT POP-UP HOSPITAL IN NEW YORK

What do you do when the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, a global architectural firm and general contracting giant approach you to find an immediate solution during a global crisis? If you’re like Stonhard, you go above and beyond to deliver one.

As a testament to its core value, “Give us your worst problem, and we will fix it,” Stonhard was entrusted with providing a flooring solution for a pop-up emergency field hospital for Covid-19 patients that was constructed on a New York suburban university campus.

Despite it being Easter weekend, the team at Stonhard immediately jumped into action, collaborating with its partners across New York to successfully install 120,000 square feet of seamless, hygienic polyurea flooring, sealed with Stonhard’s Stonseal PA7 polyaspartic coating. A plural-component spray applied system from fellow RPM company, Carboline, was also utilized in the project—demonstrating how intercompany connections create value for all.

Stonhard completed this critical project in just 24 hours—enabling the pop‑up hospital to begin treating patients as quickly as possible. Ultimately, this helped to ease the burden on the hard‑hit New York metropolitan healthcare community amidst the Covid‑19 pandemic.

CARBOLINE OPENS STATE-OF-THE-ART FIRESCIENCE  RESEARCH CENTER

In February 2020, Carboline hosted the grand opening of its state-of-the-art Fire-Science Research Center in St. Louis, Missouri. A $6 million addition to the company’s Research, Development & Innovation Center, this new facility enhances Carboline’s position in the global fire protection market by tripling its speed to market.

USL HELPS CONSTRUCT SOUTHEAST
ASIA’S LONGEST OVER-SEA BRIDGE

Designed to be the longest over-sea crossing in Southeast Asia, the Tambouring Bridge is a 20-mile mega bridge that connects Mengkubau and Sungai Besar in Brunei-Muara District and Labu Estate in Temburong District. Pitchmastic PmB International, part of the USL Group, was awarded a subcontract to install its PmB structural waterproofing system along the entire length of the bridge. This is one of the largest projects ever undertaken by the USL Group.

STONHARD DELIVERS CUSTOM FLOORING SOLUTION FOR NEW YORK PREP SCHOOL

To address its unique function and design needs, Stonhard formulated and installed a custom solution—Stoncrete EFX—to update worn concrete floors at Horace Mann, a prestigious preparatory school in New York City. A seamless, troweled epoxy mortar system, Stoncrete EFX was used to achieve a durable, polished concrete finish with a unique recycled glass design.

CARBOLINE DELIVERS CRITICAL SOLUTIONS FOR EAZIWASH STATIONS IN SOUTH AFRICA

As the Covid-19 pandemic continues to have a profound impact globally, it has hit close to home by touching many communities in which RPM companies operate. Though handwashing is one of the most basic preventative measures recommended by organizations like the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), millions of people around the world lack access to clean water and sanitation facilities—making this a nearly impossible feat.

South Africa, for example, has a massive water crisis, high unemployment rate and large population of low-income workers. Many of these particularly vulnerable groups across the country live in closely inhabited townships, known locally as “squatter camps,” where water supply is virtually non-existent—giving Covid-19 the perfect opportunity to spread like wildfire.

In response to this growing crisis, South African company Enviromould designed a solution—dubbed “EaziWash” stations—with all-in-one handwashing, sanitization and water supply capabilities in an effort to help these communities stay safe, clean and healthy. Consisting of large, plastic JoJo tanks that hold up to 5,000 liters of water, the EaziWash stations are housed on top of a steel frame with handwashing basins, bucket holders and sanitization dispensers.

As part of this project, Carboline South Africa was called upon to supply its quick-dry, corrosion control Carbocoat GP-55 primer for all of the steelwork, as well as its durable Carboclad 938 Finish topcoat solution for demarcation markings on concrete pads to promote safe social distancing among station users. In the first week, Carboline helped to deliver and install 125 stations to the first township in Cape Town. The remaining 125 units were completed by the second week—totaling 250 EaziWash stations for the township. Since then, plans are underway to install more than 1,000 additional stations in surrounding South African communities.
